- Orange and green pipe cleaners. To make your own pipe cleaner pumpkin, you’ll need several orange pipe cleaners for the body of the pumpkin, along with a green pipe cleaner for the vines and stem.
That’s it! Only one supply in two different colors! So, gather up your pipe cleaners and get started on your own pumpkin preschool craft right now!
How to Make a Pumpkin With Pipe Cleaners
You won’t believe how easy it is to turn orange and green pipe cleaners into an adorable pumpkin with your kids! It’s so simple that kids of any age can make this easy DIY project.
Start making your pumpkins by laying out five to six orange pipe cleaners on a flat surface. Make sure all the ends of the pipe cleaners are lined up evenly.
Then, twist all the orange pipe cleaners together in the center, making sure the twist is nice and tight to hold the group together.
Next, form the pipe cleaners into a circle shape by bending each side up. Then round out the bend with your fingers.
Once the circle is formed, bend the end of each pipe cleaner up to form a small stem on the top of your pumpkin.
Now that you have your pumpkin’s body finished, it’s time to make the stem. Wrap the green pipe cleaner around the bent ends of the orange pipe cleaners. Make sure to evenly cover all the orange pieces and tightly wrap the green piece around the top.
Once you have the stem wrapped, you can create the vines by wrapping the over-hanging pieces of the green pipe cleaner around a pencil. After wrapping the ends tightly around the pencil, carefully pull the pencil out of the twist to make a vine.
If the ends of your green pipe cleaner aren’t long enough to make a vine, just add a second green pipe cleaner to the top of your pumpkin. Wrap the center of the new pipe cleaner around the stem a few times to secure it in place, then twist it around a pencil to twist the ends.
After forming your vines, all that’s left to do is fill out the pumpkin’s body. Carefully pull apart all the orange pipe cleaners until they form a sphere shape.
To help the pumpkin stand on it’s only, simply flatten the bottom of the pumpkin by pressing the center of the pumpkin down on the table until each piece is flat.
Pipe Cleaner Pumpkin Ideas
See how simple it is to make your own pipe cleaner pumpkins? And since you don’t need any special supplies or skills, it’s perfect for a last-minute fall art project for your kids.
Since your own pumpkin craft using pipe cleaners at home is so simple, it’s also simple to customize! Consider these easy tips to create an amazing popsicle stick pumpkin at home with your kids this autumn.
- Add some beads. This easy craft is perfect for young kids, like preschoolers and kindergarteners, but if you’re looking for a way to make a little more challenging for older crafters, just add some beads! After creating the pumpkin shape with the orange pipe cleaner, have your kids thread some orange beads onto each stick. Then, wrap the green pipe cleaner around the stem and follow the rest of the craft as written.
- Make different sizes. You can easily adjust the size of your pumpkins by trimming the fuzzy sticks to different lengths. The shorter you cut your pipe cleaners, the smaller your pumpkins will be.
- Try different colors. Orange is the most popular pumpkin color, but it’s not the only shade pumpkins come in! Try making pumpkins in different colors, like white, green, or black (for Halloween).
