What is in Jalapeno Popper Dip?
The base of this dip is cream cheese, giving it a smooth and creamy texture that balances out the spiciness of the jalapeno peppers. And since you can easily adjust the spice level of this homemade jalapeno popper dip, it’s sure to appeal to just about everyone at the party.
To make this easy cream cheese jalapeno dip dip recipe, you’ll need just a few ingredients:
- Cream cheese: Just like traditional jalapeno poppers, this easy dip is made with a base of cream cheese. It’s a good idea to use full fat cream cheese to ensure that the dip is smooth and creamy after it melts.
- Bacon: You can cook fresh bacon to crumble into your dip or simply mix in some real bacon bits for faster prep work.
- Mayonnaise: While cream cheese makes up the base of this dip, you’ll need to mix in some mayo to help smooth it out and add a little bit of tang to the recipe.
- Sour cream: Another ingredient that helps balance the spice of the peppers is sour cream. You can use full fat or lite sour cream in this part of the recipe.
- Shredded cheese: Give the dip some extra cheesiness with the addition of shredded cheese. I used cheddar cheese in my recipe, but you can try different cheese varieties to see what you like best.
- Fresh jalapenos: Finely chopped jalapeno peppers are the key to getting that classic jalapeno popper flavor in your dip.
How to Make Jalapeno Popper Dip
In addition to having just a few simple ingredients, this easy jalapeno dip couldn’t be simpler to make! Just follow these quick steps to prepare your own slow cooker dip for your next party.
The first step to making this quick recipe is to combine all the dip ingredients in a bowl. Since I used a small slow cooker to heat up the dip, it was easier to mix the ingredients up in a bowl, then transfer them to the crockpot.
Add the softened cream cheese, mayonnaise, sour cream, bacon, jalapeno, and shredded cheese to the bowl. Then give the ingredients a good stir until everything is well mixed.
When you’re preparing this dip, it’s important to start with soft cream cheese or it will be impossible to mix everything together. You can let the cream cheese sit at room temperature for around one hour before you mix everything up. Or place the block of cheese in the microwave for 30 seconds to soften it.
After the dip is fully mixed, transfer it to the bowl of your slow cooker. It’s a good idea to grease the crockpot before adding the dip to keep it from sticking to the sides of the pot while it cooks.
After that, all that’s left to do is place the lid on top and let the dip cook. Set the slow cooker to cook on high for around two hours. When you’re ready to serve your dip, make sure to give it a good stir to help smooth it out and mix all the ingredients together.
How to Cut Jalapenos
The key to getting that classic jalapeno popper flavor is to use fresh jalapenos. But if you’ve never cut up this type of pepper before, you might be wondering what the best way to dice the jalapeno is.
Since jalapeno peppers can be spicy, I always wear plastic food prep gloves while I’m cutting them. Otherwise, the oil from the pepper starts to burn my skin. So, I suggest grabbing some gloves before you start cutting to protect your hands.
After that, slice one of the peppers lengthwise down the center. Inside each half, you’ll see a membrane and seeds going down the center. Use a spoon to scrape the membrane and seeds from the inside of the pepper for a more mild dip. But if you want the dip to be spicy, you can keep some of the membrane and seeds intact.
Next, cut the stem off the top of each pepper half and slice the pepper into long strips. Then turn the strips to the side and cut in the opposite direction to finely chop the peppers.

How Long is Jalapeno Popper Dip Good for in the Refrigerator?
As long as the slow cooker is on and you continue stirring the dip, you can snack on your jalapeno dip for a few hours. But since this dip is made with cream cheese and mayonnaise, the longest I would recommend letting this dip sit out is two hours after the slow cooker has been turned off.
After that, it’s a good idea to refrigerate the dip until you’re ready to eat it again. Before placing the dip in the refrigerator, be sure to cover it with plastic wrap to keep the cream cheese from hardening. You can store the dip in the refrigerator for up to three days. Just reheat it in the microwave when you’re ready to eat more.
