My little guy is in LOVE with Curious George. He gets so excited when he hears the show’s theme song come on and really enjoys watching George go on his adventures with his friends. I think he can relate with the sounds George makes because he oohs and ahs along with George every time he watches.
Planning this party was a lot of fun because I got to make some adorable and whimsical decor, along with incorporating a lot of Curious George toys we already had. I used the books as the basis for my Curious George party decor, which I made myself. If you’ve been following along on my blog over the last few weeks, you’ve already seen some of the decorations I made for this cute Curious George birthday party.
The decor I didn’t make, I found at Hobby Lobby, Target, Wal-Mart, and Amazon. The cute metal cake stand and wooden box were both from the summer clearance at Hobby Lobby. I just love them, and I’m sure I’ll use them again for another party in the future.
I made a classic white cake for this Curious George party and iced it with bright yellow icing to complement the bright red cake stand. The cake was topped with a cute book-page bunting and this adorable Curious George birthday party cake topper I found on Amazon.
I made the bunting cake topper using pages from a Curious George book and washi tape. You can get the full tutorial here on my blog. It was so simple to make and really made a statement on top of my simple cake.
In addition to adding stuffed animals and other Curious George toys to the decor, I also made a set of paper flower centerpieces. These simple centerpieces were made with tissue paper flowers and faux daisies in some cute painted mason jars. This was another fun party decor craft that was simple to make but really added to the party’s decor. Click here to learn how to make these cute centerpieces.
I held this party in July, so we were anticipating a hot day. That’s why we decided to have the party in the late afternoon. So, in addition to some fun snacks, I also served dinner. We had a classic BBQ dinner perfect for a warm summer evening outside.
We served “Hundley’s Hamburgers and Hot Dogs” as the main course, which went well with “Steve and Betsy’s Side Dishes.” To go with the burgers and hot dogs, I also served classic potato salad, chips and dip, corn on the cob (the birthday boy’s favorite!), and baked beans.
To display the food at my Curious George party, I used a selection of red and yellow serving dishes. Red food like the baked beans were displayed in a yellow dish and yellow food, like corn and potato salad, were served in red dishes. I also found an adorable Curious George bucket at a yard sale, which I used to hold the potato chips.
I decorated the food tables with this simple and adorable book page banner. I used books I found at yard sales to make a ton of different decorations for my Curious George Party. For the banner, I used “Curious George,” which is the first book in the series. This book was perfect for making a Curious George birthday party banner because it is large and has a ton of wonderful artwork, including a few pages where George is holding balloons. You can get the tutorial for this book page banner here.
In addition to cake, I also made banana pudding for dessert. I though this was the perfect dessert option for a Curious George party for a one year old — bananas for the monkeys and pudding for the baby! I was even able to make myself some gluten free banana pudding — check out the recipe here. It was delicious!
I also made some “fish cracker snack mix” because anyone who knows Curious George knows the Quints love fish crackers! This was a simple snack mix with Chex Muddy Buddies, Bugles, baby Goldfish, honey roasted peanuts, Synder’s Itty Bitty Pretzels, and red and yellow mini M&Ms. Here’s everything you need to make this yummy snack mix (all you need to do is mix the ingredients together):
I made little cones to hold the snack mix out of book pages. To make these, simply roll up a book page into a cone shape and tape the end. to secure it. I also added a little tape to the bottom of each cone to make sure the snack mix didn’t fall out the bottom as people were eating it. To display the snack mix, I used a large yellow basket.
For drinks, I served lemonade and tea in cute glass beverage dispensers I found at Hobby Lobby (on clearance — yay!). I sat the beverage dispensers on top of a small wooden box to make it easier for guests to fill their cups. The drinks were served in wide-mouth mason jars with red and yellow paper straws.
In addition to making a lot of the decorations for my Curious George party by hand, I also designed some printable decor. I created all the food labels you see in the pictures above, in addition to this cute subway art-style print with fun tidbits about the birthday boy.
I also created a couple of adorable prints that I framed and added to the decor — which I have decided to give away to my lovely blog readers for free! All you need to do is sign up for my email list (or log in using your password if you already subscribe)!

Ok, this is darling! I did a monkey themed birthday for my son’s 2nd because he was obsessed with “monkey George”. We love Curious George and have those huge readers. Now my son can almost read all the stories by himself. Tear. But this brought back great memories and made me smile. So so cute.
