Are Kellogg’s Rice Krispies Gluten Free?
Most Rice Krispies treats are made with Kellogg’s Rice Krispies cereal. But if you’re making gluten free snacks, you can’t use this brand! Kellogg’s Rice Krisipes are not gluten free because they have a malted barley coating on the cereal pieces. Luckily, there are a few substitutions you can make to prepare your own gluten free cereal treats that are safe to eat.
Are Aldi Rice Krispies gluten free?
Aldi Crispy Rice Cereal is gluten free. It features a gluten free label right on the box, which means it is made without malted barley or any other harmful grains. On top of being safe to eat, this generic rice krispies cereal also tastes great! This is my go-to brand when making my own gluten free treats.
Is Walmart brand Rice Krispies Gluten Free?
Wal-Mart brand (Great Value) crispy rice cereal is also another gluten free option to use when making your own treats. This cereal is also made without malted barley or other gluten-containing grains. But it does not feature a gluten free label on the box.
Another option for preparing gluten free treats is Kroger brand crispy rice cereal. Like the Great Value cereal, the ingredient label does show any gluten containing ingredients. But it does not feature a gluten free label on the box.
How to Make Gluten Free Christmas Rice Krispies Treats
Making your own gluten free treats for Christmas is super easy! Just follow these quick instructions for preparing the rice cereal squares and decorating them for the holidays.

Start by melting your butter in a large stock pot. When the butter is melted, add the marshallows and stir to mix. Continue stirring as the marshmallows melt, making sure they don’t stick to the bottom or sides of the pan and burn.

Once the marshmallows are fully melted, add the rice cereal to the pot and remove it from heat. Carefully mix the cereal into the marshmallows, pulling the spoon up from the bottom and over the top of the cereal.

When the cereal is fully coated in melted marshmallows, transfer it to a 9×13 baking dish. Grease your hands with nonstick cooking spray and press the mixture into the pan until it’s a solid bar.
Allow the bars to cool completely at room temperature, which usually takes at least one hour.

When the bars are cool, it’s time to decorate! Start by cutting your treats into small squares. Mine were around 2 inches wide. Then, melt the red and green chocolate according to the package instructions and immatediately top with Christmas sprinkles while the chocolate is still soft.
Allow the chocolate to cool and harden before serving your holiday treats.
Gluten Free Christmas Treat Recipe Ideas
Since these gluten free treats are so simple to make, you can easily adjust the recipe to create your own adorable snacks!

Try recipe adjustments and ideas to create a delicious dessert for any Christmas celebration:
- Add popsicle sticks. Turn your holiday treats into cute rice krispies pops with the help of a popsicle stick or paper straw. Carefully slide a stick into the bottom of each treat before serving.
- Cut them into larger squares. Making your treats into small squares is perfect for feeding a crowd. But if you want your guests to have a larger snack, you can cut the bars into larger pieces. Keep in mind that larger pieces won’t work as well on sticks because the weight of the treats may make them fall off the stick as you try to eat them.
- Use different decorations. What could be better than melted chocolate and sprinkles for decorating? If you want to change things up, try adding your sprinkles to the top of the treats while they’re still warm. Or decorated with melted chocolate and leave the sprinkles off all together.
