Banana pudding has always been one of my favorite desserts, but since it contains gluten-filled vanilla wafers, I haven’t been able to eat it in so long. Not only was I able to indulge in one of my favorite desserts, I was also able to add these fun individual banana pudding cups the spread at my son’s Curious George-themed first birthday party. By making them in individual jars, I was able to make a few gluten free versions for myself and the rest were made using regular vanilla wafers for the other guests.
The vanilla wafers I used in my gluten free banana pudding were Kinnikinnick Vanilla Wafers, but if you don’t want to wait for them to arrive, I recommend using this recipe from Gluten Free on a Shoestring. I’ve made them, and they taste just like the real thing!

These adorable gluten free banana pudding cups couldn’t be easier to make. I used quilted jelly jars for each individual pudding cup. To start, I added a vanilla wafer in the bottom of each jar. This wafer will act as the “crust” to the banana pudding. It will get nice and soft when it soaks in all of the yummy pudding mixture on top of it!

Speaking of pudding, let’s talk about the pudding I use for my gluten free banana pudding. Some people like to use banana flavored pudding in their banana pudding recipe. I don’t like the flavor of banana flavored pudding, so I use vanilla instead. Don’t worry — your gluten free banana pudding will still have plenty of banana flavor in it. I just won’t be overwhelming when you use vanilla pudding. Anyway, make your pudding according to the package instructions. Instant pudding is the way to go for a simple and easy gluten free banana pudding.

While you’re waiting for your pudding to set, cut up your bananas. I like the bananas in m gluten free banana pudding to be small and thin, so I cut the banana in half lengthwise, then sliced the banana pieces really thin from there. Add a few (I used four) on top of each vanilla wafer in your jars.
After you pudding has set, it’s time to fluff it up with a little bit of whipped topping. Add half the container of whipped topping to your pudding and gently fold it in until everything is well combined.

Then, spoon a small layer of your pudding mixture on top of the bananas and vanilla wafer. After that, continue the pattern (vanilla wafer, banana slices, pudding mixture) until your jar is almost full. Finally, top the gluten free banana pudding with a dollop of whipped topping. And that’s it! Isn’t that simple? And guess what? This gluten free banana pudding recipe tastes just like the real thing!

This delicious gluten free banana pudding recipe was the perfect addition to my Curious George Party! Everyone loved the little individual jars, and the display looked wonderful on the food table.
