Keeping the best gluten free baking supplies on hand will ensure you always have everything you need to start baking gluten free. If you know me, you know that I like to keep things as easy as possible. I don’t make my own gluten free flour blends – ever. It’s just not my thing. So, you won’t see a variety of gluten free flours on this list. To make things easy on yourself, make sure your pantry is stocked with these gluten free ingredients to start making the best gluten free desserts right away:
- Gluten free baking flour. This is an essential ingredient for quick and easy gluten free baking. Skip blending your own flours together and find a great gluten free baking flour to add to your pantry. My favorite gluten free baking flour is Bob’s Red Mill.
- Gluten free oats. Adding oats to a recipe is a great way to add some structure and fiber to your recipe. Make sure the label says the oats are gluten free, because not all oats are gluten free!
- Baking powder. Using baking powder in your gluten free recipes will help your recipes rise, which means its an essential gluten free baking supply. Make sure to check the label on your baking powder to ensure it’s gluten free before adding it to your pantry.
- Cornstarch. Another must-have for gluten free baking is cornstarch. Cornstarch helps make your gluten free cookies come out nice and chewy.
- Baking soda. Many gluten free baking recipes call for baking soda, so make sure to have this ingredient on hand.

- Sugar, powdered sugar, and brown sugar. Sweeten up your gluten free desserts with sugar. Be sure your pantry is stocked with all types of sugar, including white sugar, brown sugar, and powdered sugar.
- Salt. This common pantry ingredient is another must-have when baking gluten free.
- Unsweetened cocoa powder. You can’t make chocolate desserts without cocoa powder. Make sure to check to label to ensure your cocoa powder is gluten free.
- Extracts. Vanilla extract is an essential element to may gluten free recipes, so it’s a good idea to have some on hand. To add more flavor to your baked goods, consider grabbing some lemon or mint extracts to add to your pantry, too. Always check the label on your extracts because not all extracts are gluten free.
- Chocolate chips. You can instantly add more sweetness to any baked good with some chocolate chips. While most plain chocolate chips are gluten free, make sure to check the label on any chocolate chips that include other add-ins or flavors.
- Oil and butter. Give structure and moisture to your gluten free recipes with the help of oil and butter. Unsalted butter is a must for making gluten free cookies. And vegetable oil or canola oil are great for making other baked goods, like brownies and cakes.
- Xanthan gum. If your gluten free baking flour blend doesn’t already have xanthan gum in it, it’s a good idea to have some in your pantry for making gluten free bread and other baked goods.
- Milk. Just about any milk will do for gluten free baking. If you’re dairy free, using almond milk or coconut milk also works well with gluten free ingredients.
- Eggs. Most gluten free baking recipes use eggs, which means it’s best to have a few eggs in your refrigerator for baking.
Gluten Free Baking Supplies
In addition to ingredients, it’s also a good idea to a dedicated set of gluten free baking supplies in your kitchen to prevent cross-contamination. Buying a separate set of baking utensils, bowls, and pans is a great way to keep your gluten free baking essentials separate from your other baking supplies. Store them in a different place and wash them separately from the baking supplies you use for traditional recipes to keep from cross contaminating your gluten free supplies. Add a GF to each of your gluten free utensils to keep them from getting mixed into your other kitchen supplies.
Here are a few gluten free baking supplies to have on hand to keep your kitchen safe for gluten free cooking:
- Bakeware. Gluten free baking will require that you have a variety of bakeware. It’s a good idea to purchase an entire set of bakeware for your gluten free kitchen. If you’re looking for individual pieces, you’ll need a baking sheet, muffin pan, cake pans, cookie sheet, bread pan, and pie pan.
- Mixing bowls. Keep your bowls from getting contaminated with gluten by having a separate set of gluten free mixing bowls. A set of mixing bowls will ensure you have plenty of bowls to make all your favorite recipes.
