This easy farmhouse flower arrangement is a great way to add a rustic look to your front porch with just a few minutes of crafting.

All the supplies I used for this craft are from Hobby Lobby. But don’t worry! If you don’t have a Hobby Lobby near you, I’ve included links to the items on their website or similar items on Amazon so you can find everything you need online. To make this farmhouse spring door hanger, you’ll need:

  • Tobacco basket: I love this tobacco basket from Hobby Lobby because it features a basket in the front to hold your flowers. The basket also came with the “welcome” sign attached to make this project even simpler to put together!
  • Ribbon: Add a bow to the front of your basket with the help of some buffalo check ribbon. Make sure your ribbon is wired so you can add some structure to the bow.
  • Floral: For this basket, I used a combination of pink peonies and some spring sprigs. Both the flowers came in bunches, making it super easy to fill up the basket.
  • Floral foam: To hold your flowers in place inside your basket, it’s a good idea to add some floral foam to the bottom. The foam will allow you to stick the stems of the flowers into the basket without them moving around every time you open and close the door.
  • Burlap: To hide the floral foam inside your tobacco basket, it’s also a good idea to grab some burlap or other fabric to place in the bottom. On top of covering the foam, the fabric will also hide the bottom of your floral stems.

How to Make a Farmhouse Door Hanger

Once you have all your supplies gathered up, it’s time to start putting your spring flower arrangement together! Luckily, you can have this craft finished and hanging on your door in around five minutes.

The first thing you’ll need to do is add the bow to the front of the basket. I suggest doing this step first because you’ll need to weave the ribbon through the different layers of the tobacco basket to hold it in place. Once you weave the ribbon through, tie a bow in front and trim the ends.

Next add the burlap to the inside of the basket. Make sure to cut a piece of fabric that’s long enough to cover the front and back of the basket.

After putting the burlap in place, slide your floral foam into the bottom of the basket inside the burlap.

After that, all that’s left to do is add the flowers. Since this basket is long and tall, I didn’t even have to trim my floral stems. I started by spreading the branches out a little bit, then put two of the spring sprigs in the back of the basket. Once you get the stems where you want them inside your basket, slowly slide the end of the stem into the floral foam block to hold it in place.

Once you have your background flowers added, you can put your peonies in the front. Spread the branches out a little bit, then slide the stem of the peony bunch right in the center of the floral foam block.

After adding all the flowers, you can arrange them a little more by pulling some of the smaller branches up around the peonies to help blend all the branches together.

How Do You Hang a Basket on Your Front Door?

Since this basket is much heavier than a traditional wreath or small door hanger, you’ll need a heavy-duty hook to hold it in place. While I love using Command hooks for hanging wreaths, they’re just not strong enough to hold this much weight in an outdoor setting.

When it comes to hanging a floral basket on your door, you have two options, depending on the type of door you have.

  • Magnetic hook. If you have a metal door, magnetic hooks are the best way to go. These super strong magnets can hold up to 10 pounds, making it perfect for decorating your door with a basket.
  • Add a nail. If you have a wood door, a nail is probably your best bet. While it’s not the most ideal option because it does damage the door slightly, if you have a wreath or other door decoration hanging on your front door year-round the benefits could outweigh the drawbacks.
