Cupcake Liner Flower Supplies

You and your kids will have a blast making this adorable cupcake liner flower craft together. But the best part about this easy craft is that you probably have everything you need to make them in your kitchen right now!

how to make flowers from cupcake liners

You only need four supplies to make these adorable flowers. Here’s what you’ll need to make your own cupcake wrapper flowers:

  • Cupcake liners: You can use any color or pattern on your cupcake liners. For our flowers, we used one solid wrapper, one polka dot wrapper, and one striped wrapper per flower.
  • Paper straws: Match the color of the paper straws to the cupcake liners to coordinate the look. Or use one color for all the flower stems! If you don’t have paper straws at home, you could also use dowel rods, chopsticks, or sticks from your yard for your flower stem.
  • Scissors: Since the paper on your cupcake liners is so thin, child-safe scissors are perfectly fine to use for this craft.
  • Glue: You can use traditional white glue or your hot glue gun to attach the paper wrappers to the paper straw stem.

How to Make Paper Flowers Out of Cupcake Liners

You won’t believe how simple these paper flowers are to make! That means they’re a great craft project for kids of any age. As long as your child can use scissors, they’ll be able to make these flowers on their own.

Cut cupcake wrapper to make petals

After gathering your supplies, count out the number of cupcake wrappers you’ll need to make your bouquet. Each flower needs at least three liners, although you could add more if you want fuller flowers.

When you have all your wrappers sorted out, use a pair of scissors to cust small slits along the outer edge of the flowers. Cut the slits up to the fold on the liner, making sure not to cut all the way through to the center.

cut the liner to fit the stem

When all your petals are cut, fold each liner in half and cut a small slit in the center. This will be the spot that the straw goes through to hold your cupcake liner flower petals to the stem.

place the cupcake liners on the paper straw stem

Slide the cupcake wrappers onto the straw one at a time. Add a small amount of glue around the spot where the cucpake liner and straw meet, the pinch the cupcake wrapper around the straw to hold it in place.

Continue adding wrappers until the top of the straw is covered to create your flowers. We used three wrappers per straw to creat our flowers, but there’s no reason you couldn’t add more if you wanted to.

Try these simple craft ideas to create your own flower craft with your kids:

  • Make mini flowers. Instead of using full-sized cupcake wrappers, try using mini liners to make smaller flowers. Follow the same instructions as above, using mini cupcake wrappers instead of large ones.
  • Use a different stem. If you don’t have paper straws on hand, don’t worry! You can still make this craft by replacing the straws with a different stem. There are several different options you could use as a stem for your flowers, like popsicle sticks, pipe cleaner, dowel rods, chopsticks, plastic straws, or even sticks from your yard.
  • Paint your liners. Don’t have colorful cupcake liners at home? You can easily dress up plain white wrappers with a little bit of paint. Use paint to add color or patterns to the plain liners, then allow the paint to dry completely. After that, just follow the instructions above to make your flowers.
