DIY Christmas Ornament Tree Sign (a $4 Christmas Decoration)
Creating beautiful Christmas crafts is a big part of the holiday season for me. I love adding to my decor each year with new crafty items, and this year is no exception. I started my Christmas crafting this week with a pretty Christmas ornament tree sign. Not only will this beautiful sign be the perfect addition to my mantle this year, but it only cost me $4 to make! It’s one of my favorite holiday farmhouse DIY projects.

I love when a craft project just comes together! I was shopping at Dollar Tree the other day and saw these pretty rose gold ornaments. So I knew I had to do something with them the moment I saw them. Then it came to me. This piece of scrap wood lying around from another project was the perfect size to create something special!
These are the ornaments I used. There are so many different color options:

I started out by cleaning and sanding my piece of wood. Then I added some stain to deepen the color of the wood. I used a dark walnut stain that I had leftover from staining my dining room table. Once the wood was dry, it was time to start putting my Christmas ornament tree together.
I started by laying out the ornaments on the sign to determine how many rows I would need to fill the space. I alternated between small and medium sized ornaments on each row, then alternated again on the next row. This helped the ornaments sit together a little better as I built the rows.
You can see that I doubled a couple rows to add some height to the Christmas ornament tree. That way, the tree filled the entire sign. I should also point out that no matter how hard I tried, I couldn’t get the tree even! But it’s supposed to have a rustic look, so I guess the unevenness fits its style. Right?
After I had the tree laid out how I liked it, I started gluing. I used my hot glue gun to glue each ornament in place. I placed the glue at the top of the ornament and secured it to the wood. Each ornament was placed on the wood so that the top of the ornament was touching the wood. That way, the row above it hid the top of the ornament.
Getting the ornaments to stick to the wood is a process. First, you have to make sure you have plenty of glue on the ornament, then you have to work fast. The glue starts to harden as soon as air hits it, so you want to make sure it’s still soft when you put the ornament on the sign!
At the top of the tree, I turned the last ornament upside down. That ensure that the top of my last ornament was hidden, as well. After I finished, I stood the sign upright. Then, I noticed that a few of my ornaments weren’t glued very well. I had to re-glue a few. I also added a little more glue to the ornaments around the edge to make sure they were all secure.
You can also use some glue to glue each of the ornaments together in the row to help them stay on the sign when it’s standing upright.
Can you believe this beautiful sign only cost $4? I bought four bundles of ornaments — two mini balls and two medium balls. I even had some ornaments left over to add to my tree this Christmas.

This is such a great idea! I did something similar a few years ago and I may just still have it somewhere. I actually glued the Christmas balss together and made a Christmas tree (3d) out of them. It was cool! I totally forgot about this! Thank you for your ideas!
