Sharing is caring!

Tootsie Pops are a classic Halloween treat. But what if there was a way to level up your candy game for trick or treating this year? I made these adorable spider lollipops and my kids were obsessed. They quickly became one of my favorite Halloween crafts for kids to make this year! That’s because the only take 30 minutes and are perfect for little ones of any age.

I made these lollipop spiders for my son’s Halloween class party. His school doesn’t allow home-baked treats, only pre-packaged snacks and drinks. But I still wanted to send something cute that felt homemade. So I skipped the oven and headed to the candy aisle instead.

Each Tootsie Pop stays sealed in its wrapper, so these spiders follow the school rules. And they still look like I put a little love into them!

This DIY Halloween pipe cleaner craft makes a fun Halloween party favor, class party snack, or trick or treat handout. But my favorite part is that it’s simple enough for preschool helpers, too.

Like most of my Dollar Tree Halloween crafts for kids, this lollipop spider craft only takes a few cheap supplies. Here’s what I used to make them, and you’ll find exact quantities in the recipe card below.

  • Tootsie Pops: These make the spider’s body, and the wrapper keeps the candy clean for class parties.
  • Black pipe cleaners: I cut these in half to make eight fuzzy spider legs.
  • Black pom poms: Each pom pom becomes the spider’s head.
  • Googly eyes: Two googly eyes give every spider a silly, cute face.
  • Hot glue gun: Hot glue holds the head and eyes in place and dries fast. Look for a kid-friendly replacement at the bottom of the post!

How to Make Spider Lollipops

Making these lollipop spiders is one of the easiest spider crafts for kids, with just six simple steps. Kids can help with the legs and feet while I handle the hot glue.

I started by cutting each black pipe cleaner in half with regular scissors. Each spider needs four halves to make the legs.

Next, I wrapped those four pipe cleaner halves around the stick of the sucker, right under the lollipop. Wrapping them snugly keeps the legs from sliding. The ends on each side become eight spider legs. If your spider legs are uneven, just use your scissors to trim them up until they’re all the same length.

Then I bent the end of each pipe cleaner down to make little feet. This gives each spider that fun creepy-crawly look.

Now it’s time for the head. I glued one black pom pom on top of the legs. Hot glue gets very hot, so this step is best for grown-ups.

I glued two googly eyes on top of each pom pom head to finish decorating the spiders. This is the part that brings each spider to life!

Let the glue dry completely before handing out your spiders. That way no eyes or heads go missing in a backpack.

Once your kids see how adorable these spider suckers are, they’re going to be asking you to make them all October long!

And the good news is that I found that these lollipop spiders are super easy to customize with whatever you have on hand. Here are a couple of swaps that work great:

  • Lollipops: Any lollipops or suckers will work in place of Tootsie Pops.
  • Glue: White school glue can replace hot glue, but your spiders will take longer to dry.

Spider Lollipop FAQs

Can I use other lollipops or suckers? Yes! Any lollipops or suckers will work for this craft. Tootsie Pops just have a nice round shape for the spider’s body.

Can I use school glue instead of hot glue? Yes, white school glue works too. Just know your spiders will take longer to dry, so plan to make them ahead.

Are lollipop spiders okay for school class parties? This Halloween party craft was perfect for my son’s class party, which only allowed pre-packaged treats. The candy stays sealed in its wrapper, but check your school’s rules first.

Can kids help make them? Yes, with a little help! Preschoolers can wrap the pipe cleaner legs and bend the feet. A grown-up should handle the hot glue, or you can switch to school glue.

Storage Instructions

I like to make these a few days before the party. I store them at room temperature in a cool, dry spot away from heat and sunlight. That keeps the candy from getting sticky and the glue from loosening.
