- Paper plates. To make your Minion craft at home, you can use any size paper plate you want. Our Minions were made with small 6-inch plates because that’s what we had on hand, but full-sized plates would also work!
- Yellow paint. You’ll also need to use some yellow paint, as well as a paint brush for your kid to use, to create this fun craft. I suggest using acrylic craft paint because it provides a nice, thick coat.
- Construction paper and googly eyes. To make the googles for your Minion, we used black construction paper and googly eyes. But you have a few other options for this part of the project! Keep reading below to see some other ideas.
- Black marker. To finish turning your plate into a Minion, you’ll also need a black marker to draw the face and hair on the paper plate.
How to Make a Paper Plate Minion
Now that you have all your supplies gathered up, it’s time to get crafty! Have some fun with your kids making your own Minion DIY at home or in the classroom by following these easy instructions.

The first step to turning your paper plate into a Minion is to do some painting. We used yellow paint to give it the look of a Minion’s face. Simply paint the entire plate yellow , adding more coats if needed until the whole plate is fully covered. We used two coats of yellow acrylic paint for ours.

While you’re waiting for the yellow paint to dry, your kids can cut the construction paper for your Minion mask. Cut a one-inch wide strip of paper for each Minion you’re making.

When the paint is completely dry, glue the black strip of paper to the center of the plate. Then, grab a pair of scissors and trim the ends off the black paper along each edge of the plate.

Then, attach two large googly eyes on top of the black construction paper. We love using these googly eyes with sticky backs because they’re super easy for kids to attach on their own! You can also use glue to attach traditional googly eyes to your plate.

After that, all that’s left to do is draw a face on your Minion. Use a black maker to draw a smile under the eyes. Then, add a few tufts of hair to the top of the plate.
