Paper Plate Flamingo Craft

This adorable paper plate craft is so easy to make, it can be put together with just a few minutes of prep work. That means it’s perfect for a summer afternoon at home with your kids! And since it’s so simple to put together, all your kids can get in on the fun, no matter how old they are!

• Paper plates. You can use any size paper plate you want to make your own flamingos with your kids. We used small 6-inch plates because that’s what we had on hand, but full-sized plates would also work!
• Pink paint. We used bright pink acrylic craft paint to decorate our paper plates. But any shade of pink paint would work. You can even make your own pink paint by mixing red with a little bit of white!
• Black paint or marker. You’ll also need some black paint or a black marker to paint the beak of your flamingo.
• Googly eyes. You can’t make an animal craft with your kids without googly eyes! I love these googly eye stickers when making crafts with preschoolers.
• Black construction paper. The legs of your flamingo will be made of black construction paper. You could also use black cardstock for this part of the preschool craft.
• Scissors. To transform your paper plate into a flamingo, you’ll need to do some cutting. But the cuts are simple enough for even young kids to do on their own!

How to Make a Paper Plate Flamingo

Now that you have all your supplies gathered up, it’s time to get crafty! Have some fun with your kids making your own ocean craft at home this summer.

The first step is to make your flamingos is to paint the plates pink. Use your pink paint to fully cover the plate, adding more coats as needed. Then, allow the paint to dry completely.

After giving the paint on your paper plate plenty of time to dry, grab your safety scissors and cut the plate in half right down the center.

Next, set one of the halves aside and follow the curve of the ridges on the other plate to cut out the flamingo’s neck.

After that, trim the edge of the plate off to create a point for the flamingo’s beak. Use black paint or a black marker to color the tip black to decorate the beak.

Allow the black paint to dry, then attach one googly eye over the top of the beak.

Next, grab your black paper and cut two one-inch strips to make the flamingo’s legs.

To finish your flamingo craft, flip the pieces over and attach them to the back. Attach the head to the straight side of your paper plate half. Then, attach the two black strips to the center of the curved end. After that, all that’s left to do is allow the glue to dry!
