Not all gifts your kids give to family members this year need to be store-bought. There are so many adorable ways to create a unique DIY Christmas gift kids can make! Taking the time to put together a handmade gift from your kids is sure to make your loved ones happy this Christmas.
Prep Your Christmas Tea Towels
The first — and maybe most important — step to making these simple Christmas tea towels is to prep your work space. Since your kids will be using paint in this project, they’re likely to get messy as they work. Make sure your work surface is covered to prevent paint spatters from ruining your table. And put your kids in clothing you don’t mind getting messy.

After everyone is ready to paint, lay out your cookie cutters and place the paint on paper plates. To make stamping the towels a little easier for your kids, I suggest spreading the paint out on the paper plate. That will make dipping the cookie cutters in the paint so much simpler.
Easy Christmas Gifts Kids Can Make

To stamp your Christmas tea towels, start by dipping the cookie cutter in the paint. We use fabric paint to make these tea towels, but I’ve also painted towels with acrylic paint. To ensure the acrylic paint stays on the towels after washing, be sure to mix a fabric medium into the paint before you start stamping!

After dipping the cookie cutter into the paint, press it onto the tea towel. Make sure to put plenty of pressure evenly over the entire cookie cutter to ensure the entire design gets stamped onto the towel.

And that’s it! It’s so simple a two year old can do it! In fact, my little one had a blast stamping the cookie cutters on the towels. And he loves using the towels in the kitchen, too!
Tips for DIY Stamped Christmas Tea Towels

These tea towels really do make a simple Christmas gift kids can make, and with these quick tips, they’ll be even easier to make!
Use fabric paint. This is the most important tip I can offer! To ensure your friends and family can use these towels over and over gain, you need to use the correct type of paint. Fabric paint is the best option, but you can also use acrylic paint mixed with a fabric medium.
Be prepared for a mess. Painting with kids is bound to get messy! Make sure you have plenty of paper towels on hand to clean up messes as they happen.
Don’t aim for perfection. This was hard for me! My two year old wanted to stamp all his cookie cutters in the exact same spot, which didn’t look great. But who cares? Your family members will love that they’re getting something special from their favorite kids — and they won’t care whether the design is perfect.
