Make Your Popsicle Stick Christmas Ornament
This popsicle stick Christmas ornament is so simple to make! It’s great for kids of any age! Your preschooler will have a chance to practice a few of his fine motor skills as he works, and your older kids will be able to complete this craft entirely on their own. To create your popsicle stick star ornament you’ll need:
- five red or green popsicle sticks
- ribbon or twine
Start by gluing two popsicle sticks together to form the top of a triangle. These two popsicle sticks will be the base of your star ornament, so make sure the glue is dry before moving on to the next step.
Next, attach another popsicle stick to the bottom of the stick on the right side of the triangle. Place the stick at an angle to form one side of the star’s center.
The next popsicle still will go across the center of the star. Glue the end of the stick to the end of the stick you placed in the previous step.
To finish creating the star for your popsicle stick Christmas ornament, glue the final popsicle stick in place. This last stick will go across the center of the ornament at an angle. Secure one end of the stick to the end of the popsicle stick in the center of the ornament and the other end of the stick to the left side of the triangle.
After your star is formed on your popsicle stick Christmas ornament, it’s time to turn it into an ornament. Simply flip the star over and glue a loop of ribbon or twine to the top of the star. Make sure to leave enough room in you loop so it fits over a Christmas tree branch.
Questions About This Popsicle Stick Christmas Ornament
While this is a simple popsicle stick Christmas ornament craft, you may have a few questions about how I made these simple star ornaments. Here are a few commonly asked questions:
What kind of popsicle sticks did you use?
To make these stars, I used pre-dyed popsicle sticks from the Dollar Tree. If you don’t have red and green popsicle sticks, don’t worry! You can make these with plain wooden popsicle sticks for a more rustic look. Or add an extra step to the craft and let your kids paint the sticks before you turn them into a star.
What kind of glue should I use?
Hot glue is the best option to ensure your star ornaments stay together for years to come. If you’re making this craft with older kids, be sure to supervise them as they glue the ends together to avoid burns.
Sometimes using a hot glue gun on a kid’s craft isn’t the best idea. You can also use traditional white glue, just make sure you hold the ends of the sticks together and allow them to dry completely between each step to make sure your star doesn’t fall apart as you put it together.
