Our favorite way to celebrate in October is by making some fun Halloween crafts! And that means I need plenty of fun ideas for the kids throughout the month. With this cute mummy paper plate lacing craft, your little ones can have fun creating a cute Halloween creature while practicing their fine motor skills. Your kids are going to love this lacing craft because it’s super simple to make for kids of any age! In fact, all they need are three craft supplies to put it together.

With the help of some paper plates and ribbon, your kids can make their very own spooky mummy all while practicing their fine motor skills at the same time! And the best part about this easy project is that kids of any age can put it together all on their own — from preschoolers to elementary school students!

Mummy Lacing Craft

When it comes to kid’s crafts, it doesn’t get much easier than this ribbon mummy! Since there’s no painting or cutting involved, it’s perfect for toddlers and preschoolers.

All you need to make your own mummy lacing craft is:

• Paper plates: White paper plates are the best option when making your own laced mummy at home. We used small 6-inch plates for our mummies, but any size plate will work when making your own Halloween paper plate craft.
• White ribbon: To turn the paper plate into a bandage wrapped mummy, you’ll also need some white ribbon. I grabbed this ribbon in the craft aisle of my Dollar Tree!
• Googly eyes: Once you have your mummy wrapped up, you’ll need to add a face. A pair of large googly eyes is perfect for completing this fun mummy craft.

How to Make a Mummy Lacing Craft

Now that you have all your craft supplies gathered up and ready to go, it’s time to start crafting! Follow these simple instructions for making your own mummy craft at home today.

Start by grabbing your white paper plate. Use a hole punch to punch holes all around the edges of the plate. If you’re working with a toddler or preschooler, it’s a good idea to do this part of the project yourself. Otherwise, let your older kids punch their own holes before they start lacing.

Once you have all the holes punched in the plate, cut a very long piece of ribbon off the roll. Thread one end of the ribbon through one of the holes and glue the end in place.

Allow the glue to dry completely, then let your child start threading the ribbon through the holes. To give it a spooky mummy look, have your kids alternate the placement of the ribbon so they aren’t straight across the plate every time.

Continue threading the ribbon through the holes until the entire plate is covered. Your child can thread the ribbon through a hole more than once, if needed!

When they’re finished wrapping their paper plate in mummy bandages, all that’s left to do is add the googly eyes. Just stick the eyes to the center of the plate and you’re done!

• Use different materials for the bandages. You can easily swap out the white ribbon in this craft for a few different materials, depending on what you have on hand. In addition to ribbon, you can also use white streamers, gauze bandages, or white yarn to make the bandages for your mummy.
• Draw on a face. If you want to add more of a face to your mummy, go right ahead! In addition to the googly eyes, your kids can also use a marker to draw a mouth and nose on their mummies.
• Add some color. While mummies are usually white, there’s no reason your kids can’t have some fun with color when making their own art project. Try replacing the white plate with a colorful party plate or using different colored ribbon to wrap around the mummy’s head.
