Making the transition to gluten free eating was difficult for me because I loved all those gluten-filled treats — especially donuts. But over the years, I’ve spent countless hours in the kitchen working to improve my gluten free baking. And now, I can enjoy tons of yummy treats I thought were out of the question before.
So, if you’re thinking about going gluten free, don’t get discouraged! You can still have tons of delicious treats! For your next birthday, consider making some of these delicious gluten free birthday donuts — you won’t be disappointed!

Make Your Own Birthday Donuts

To make your own gluten free donuts, start by beating your eggs, sugar, oil, and vanilla extract together in a large bowl. Keep beating until the mixture is light and fluffy.

Next, add in your gluten free baking flour, along with some baking powder and salt. To make light and fluffy gluten free birthday donuts, be sure to use baking flour instead of all-purpose flour. My favorite gluten free baking flour blend is Bob’s Red Mill 1-to-1 baking flour!

After adding your dry ingredients, mix them into your wet ingredients until a flaky dough forms. After the dough starts clumping together, add some milk to smooth out the batter. Beat the milk and clumpy dough until it’s smooth.

Add in some rainbow sprinkles to make these gluten free birthday donuts festive and fun! Simply pour the sprinkles into your batter and fold them until they’re evenly mixed into the batter.

Finish by spooning or piping your batter into a set of donut pans. This recipe makes 12 gluten free birthday donuts, so you’ll need two six-count pans to make all the donuts! Bake them for 12 to 15 minutes. You’ll know when they’re finished when you press your finger on the top top of the donut and it quickly bounces back into shape.
Make Your Sprinkle Glaze

When your gluten free birthday donuts are finished baking, allow them to cool in the pan for a few minutes. Then, transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely. While the donuts are cooling, mix your glaze by whisking together powdered sugar and milk until a smooth glaze forms. To make the glaze pink, simply add in red food coloring one drop at a time until you reach your desired shade.

Make sure the gluten free birthday donuts are completely cool, then start dipping each donut into the glaze. After dipping the donut in the glaze, place it back on the wire rack to set.

Before the glaze completely sets on your donuts, sprinkle some more rainbow sprinkles on top. And that’s it! See how simple it is to have a delicious, festive gluten free treat on your birthday? These gluten free birthday donuts are the perfect way to celebrate your special day!
