Make Your Turkey Craft for Kids

This turkey craft really is so easy to make! Which is why it’s great for kids of any age! Your preschooler will have a chance to practice a few of his fine motor skills as he works, and your older kids will be able to complete this craft entirely on their own. To create your fall leaf turkey you’ll need:
- brown construction paper
- red construction paper
- yellow construction paper
- googly eyes
- glue
- fall leaves (real or faux)

The first step to making this turkey craft for kids is to cut out two circles from brown construction paper to form the body. I have a 2-inch paper punch that was perfect for this part of the craft. But if you don’t have a punch, try tracing a cup on a piece of paper, then asking your little one to cut out the two circles. After the circles are cut, glue them together to form a cute little body for your turkey.

After making the turkey’s body, it’s time to decorate! First, you’ll need to cut a small triangle from the yellow construction paper to make the beak. The, cut a teardrop shape from the red construction paper to make the gobbler.
Fun fact: this little part of the turkey is technically called the wattle. It turns bright red when the turkey is upset or mating.
When you have both pieces cut, glue the gobbler on first, then place the yellow beak on top.

Finish creating the turkey’s face by adding some googly eyes. Because googly eyes make any kid’s craft more fun!

The last step to creating this turkey craft for kids is to add the turkey’s feathers. But instead of traditional feathers, we’re going to give this turkey a little bit of fall flair by gluing fall leaves to the back of the turkey. Let your kids get creative and pick their own colors and pattern to create a beautiful fall leaf turkey!
Questions About This Fall Leaf Turkey Craft
While this is an easy turkey craft for kids, you may have a few questions about how I made these turkeys. Here are a few commonly asked questions:

What kind of leaves did you use?
To make these turkeys, I used faux leaves from the Dollar Tree. They were perfect for this fun little craft. But if you don’t have faux leaves, or just want to make this turkey craft a little more fun, why not head outside and pick some leaves from the yard to use as your turkey’s feathers?
What kind of glue should I use?
Plain white glue should work fine on this craft, especially when gluing the facial pieces on your turkey. But if your leaves don’t seem to be sticking well with traditional glue, you may want to try Mod Podge or hot glue instead. If you’re making this craft with older kids, be sure to supervise them as they glue the leaves on to avoid burns.
What age is this turkey craft for kids best for?
This turkey craft is really great for kids of any age. If you’re planning on making this craft with younger kids (preschoolers and kindergartners), start by pre-cutting all the pieces of the body and let them put the craft together on their own. But older kids can cut out the pieces and put the craft together without much supervision.
