Finding a great gift for a dad who has everything is so hard! That’s why I love giving gifts handmade gifts whenever I can! On top of allowing you to put a personalized touch on a plain gift, homemade gifts also give your kids a chance to get in on the action. And this simple DIY Father’s Day gift is so easy to make, your kids can definitely help make it.

All you need are a handful of simple supplies to put this thoughtful gift together. And the best part is that your Dad or husband can use it over and over again! He’ll have a blast trying out different beers using his personalized flight board at home.
To make this DIY Father’s Day gift, you’ll just need a handful of supplies, including:
- Wood flight board. The most important part of this DIY gift is the flight board. I found this plain wood flight board at Target in the Dollar Spot for just $5. You can find a similar flight board on Amazon for less than $10.
- Chalkboard paint. Decorate half of your board with chalkboard paint to allow your husband to write the types of beers he’s enjoying under each glass.
- Father’s Day SVG. Download my free Father’s Day beer SVG to add a personal touch to your wooden flight board.
- Black vinyl. Cut the SVG design on black vinyl to decorate your board. You can use traditional vinyl or heat transfer vinyl for this project. If you’re using HTV, remember to mirror your design before cutting it!
- Cricut: To cut the words for your personalized flight board, you’ll need a cutting machine to cut the vinyl. I use the Cricut Explore Air 2 and love it!

After extracting the SVG from the zip file, upload it into design space. Use your mouse to select all the letters in the design, then weld them together. This will ensure your design cuts correctly and keep Design Space from jumbling up your letters when you’re ready to cut.

Measure the handle of your flight board to see how big your design should be, then resize the design if you need to. After that, you’re ready to cut! Load the vinyl onto your cutting mat and cut the design using your Cricut.
DIY Father’s Day Beer Gift
Once you have your vinyl cut, it’s time to start getting your wooden flight board ready to go!

Start by placing a piece of painter’s tape over the board where you’ll want your chalkboard paint to go. I painted the chalkboard paint along the bottom two inches of the board.

Paint a thick layer of chalkboard paint over the bottom of the board. You’ll need at least two coats of paint to ensure the bottom of the board is covered. Allow the paint to dry, then remove the tape from the board.

Use your Cricut weeding tool to remove all the extra vinyl surrounding the vinyl words. Then place a piece of transfer tape on top to transfer the words from the vinyl backing to the flight board.

Line up the vinyl so it’s centered on the handle, then press the vinyl onto the wood. You can use a credit card to quickly transfer the vinyl to the handle, then remove the transfer tape.

After you’re finished creating your board, you can add to the DIY Father’s day beer gift to create an amazing present for Dad! Try these different gift ideas to create a personalized Father’s Day gift:
- Add small glasses and chalk. In addition to the board, you can also include flight glasses and chalk to use with the flight board. Small glasses work best for this board, allowing them to all fit in the slots. And a few pieces of chalk is a good idea to allow Dad to write down the type of beer under each glass so he knows exactly what he’s drinking.
- Include craft beers. Make sure Dad has a few different beers to try with his flight board by including different craft beers in the gift. Check your local liquor store to see if they allow you to create your own six-pack to give Dad a chance to try a variety of different beers with his flight board.
- Try other drink options. While this flight board makes a great beer gift, there’s no reason you couldn’t use it for different drinks if dad isn’t a beer drinker! You could use the flight board for whisky, wine, or even soda!
