To make your own cold pepperoni dip, you’ll need a few simple ingredients, including:

  • Cream cheese. I suggest using full fat cream cheese for this dip for the best flavor and consistency. Make sure to allow time for your cream cheese to soften before you start mixing your dip ingredients.
  • Sour cream. You can use full fat or reduced fat sour cream in this recipe. I always use reduced fat sour cream when cooking and can’t taste much of a difference!
  • Mini pepperoni. These mini pepperoni from Hormel are perfect for dips! But if you can’t find any where you are, you can also use regular pepperoni and chop up the slices into smaller pieces.
  • Mozzarella cheese. Add to the pizza flavor with the help of some shredded cheese. I used mozzarella cheese, but you could also use parmesan, reggiano, asiago, or a combination of Italian cheeses.
  • Seasoning. Rounding out the ingredient list for this pizza inspired dip is Italian seasoning and garlic powder. These last two additions will give your dip tons of Italian flavor.

Should I Soften Cream Cheese for Dip?

Starting with softened cream cheese is the key to getting smooth, creamy dip every time you make it! That’s why it’s essential that you take the time to soften your cream cheese before you start mixing up your appetizers.

Luckily, it’s simple to soften the cheese and get it ready for mixing. There are to basic methods to softening your cheese to make it easier to stir:

  • Let it rest at room temperature until it’s softened. Just place the cream cheese on the counter and let it sit until it warms up, which usually takes 30 minutes to 1 hour depending on how warm your kitchen is.
  • Soften it in the microwave. Speed up the softening time by warming the cream cheese in the microwave. Open the package and transfer the cheese to a microwave-safe bowl. Then, cover the bowl to keep the cheese from splattering. Heat the cream cheese in 30 second intervals until it’s softened.
