It doesn’t matter if you’re looking for an appetizer idea for tailgating or just need a dish to bring to your next potluck dinner, this oven baked chili cheese dip is sure to be a hit. But the best part about this easy recipe is that it’s naturally gluten free!
In addition to being delicious, you can whip up this Velveeta chili dip in a matter of minutes. Simply layer the dip in the pan and bake it in the oven to melt the cheese.
What is in 3 Ingredient Chili Cheese Dip?
The base of this dip is Velveeta, giving it a smooth and creamy texture that matches well with just about anything you dip in it. And since it’s a 3 ingredient chili cheese dip, it’s also quick and easy to prepare.

To make this easy Hormel chili cheese dip recipe, you’ll need just a few ingredients:
- Velveeta: To create a thick and creamy base for your chili dip, Velveeta is a must. Cut cut your cheese loaf into cubes and toss it into the pan to easily make a creamy, cheesy dip.
- Chili: I used Hormel chili with beans because it’s labeled gluten free. But you can use any of your favorite canned chili brands to prepare this easy dip.
- Shredded cheese: Add even more cheesiness to your baked dip with the help of shredded cheese. I used fiesta blend cheese, but you can also top your dip with shredded Velveeta, cheddar cheese, or queso blanco.
How to Make Baked Chili Cheese Dip
In addition to having only three ingredients, this easy Velveeta Hormel dip couldn’t be simpler to make! Just follow these quick steps to prepare your own cheesy baked dip for your next party.

Combine the canned chili and cubed Velveeta cheese in your baking dish. I used a small cast iron skillet to bake my dip, but any oven-safe dish will work.

Place the pan in the oven to bake for around 20 minutes to give the Velveeta plenty of time to melt. Once the cheese is fully melted, remove the pan from the oven and carefully stir to mix the cheese and chili together.

After that, sprinkle the shredded cheese over the top of the dip and return the pan to the oven.

Continue baking the dip for another 10 minutes, until the cheese on top is melted. Serve your dip immediately with chips and veggies!

Is Hormel Chili Cheese Dip Gluten Free?
If you’re wondering whether chili cheese dip is gluten free, the answer is it depends. While some recipes don’t use any gluten-containing ingredients, others do. That’s why it’s a good idea to make your own dip instead of relying on someone else. That way, you know exactly what’s in the recipe before you eat it.
This three ingredient recipe is gluten free when you use a gluten free canned chili (like Hormel) and it’s served with gluten free dippers, like vegetables, tortilla or corn chips.
How Long is Velveeta Chili Cheese Dip Good for in the Refrigerator?
Since this dip is made with meat and cheese, the longest I would recommend letting this dip sit out is two hours after you take it out of the oven.
After that, it’s a good idea to refrigerate the dip until you’re ready to eat it again. Before placing the dip in the refrigerator, be sure to cover it with plastic wrap or transfer it to an airtight container to keep the Velveeta from hardening. You can store the dip in the refrigerator for up to three days. Just reheat it in the microwave.
