Popsicle Stick Fish Craft

Since there are so many fun ways to use popsicle sticks in kid’s art projects, there are so many fun crafts you can make! With this cute popsicle stick fish craft, your kids can turn plain wooden sticks into colorful ocean fish.

This popsicle stick fish is such a simple activity. That means it’s perfect for kids of any age. And since it can be put together with just a few kid-friendly craft supplies, it’s perfect for a lazy afternoon. To make your own preschool fish craft, you’ll need:

• Popsicle sticks: We used yellow and purple craft sticks from a package of colored popsicle sticks from the dollar store to make our fish. But if you don’t have any pre-colored sticks on hand, you can also paint your sticks yellow and purple to create the same look. You’ll need three popsicle sticks for each fish.
• Printable template: To turn your popsicle sticks into a fish, you’ll also need to download my printable template. Keep reading to see how to get your download, then print it out on cardstock to complete the craft.
• Googly eyes: Add a googly eye to your fish to transform it from a plain triangle into an adorable ocean animal. You’ll need on eye per fish.
• Glue: To construct your fish, you’ll also need some glue. Hot glue is a good option for gluing the sticks together. But you can also use plain white school glue when making this craft. Just make sure to allow plenty of time for the glue to dry.

How to Make a Fish Out of Popsicle Sticks

Using colorful popsicle sticks to make a fish is so easy! Just follow these quick steps to make an adorable set of tropical purple and yellow fish with your kids.

The first step to making your fish craft is to cut out all the pieces of the template. Start by downloading the printable and opening it with a PDF viewer. Then, print out the second page of the PDF on cardstock.

The template comes with pieces to construct two fish — one purple and one yellow. Use your scissors to cut out each piece. When you’re finished, you’ll have two bodies, four fins, and two tails.

To make the fish’s body, start by gluing together three popsicle sticks to form a triangle shape. When the glue is dry on your popsicle sticks, attach the printable body to the back of the popsicle stick triangle.

Next, glue on the remaining pieces of the fish. Each small triangle is a fin. Glue them to the top and bottom of the body, attaching the top point of the triangle to the back of the fish.

After that, glue the tail to the back of the fish’s body. Then, attach the eye to the front of the triangle.
