This adorable popsicle stick dog craft is a quick and easy way to start your Valentine’s Day celebration with your kids. And the best part about this easy craft is that all the hard work of making this valentine craft is done for you if you have a Cricut!

Valentine’s Day Popsicle Stick Craft

Putting together a craft with your kids is a fun way to celebrate any holiday — especially Valentine’s Day. Your kids will have a blast putting together this cute dog craft! And since it’s made with paper and popsicle sticks, you don’t need any special craft supplies to create it at home.

To make your valentine popsicle stick craft, you’ll just need a few supplies, including:

  • Popsicle sticks: We used plain popsicle sticks to make our cute Valentine’s Day dog craft, but you could use any color sticks for your project. Or even paint the sticks to add some color to your craft!
  • Googly eyes: You can’t make a kid’s craft without some googly eyes, right?
  • Heart dog PNG: Keep reading to see how to get your copy of the heart template to create your cute popsicle stick dog.
  • Cricut: To cut the pieces for your craft, you can use your Cricut Explore Air 2! But if you don’t have a Cricut, you can also cut these cards using scissors or an Exacto knife.

To make your own popsicle stick craft for Valentine’s Day, you’ll need to start by downloading my free PNG print then cut file. The file includes a template to create the dog’s ears and nose.

To use this file as a print then cut file with your Cricut, start by uploading the PNG version of the file into Design Space. When you select the file, you’ll be asked to select the image type. With this design, any of the options will work, so you can just select any one of the options on the screen. On the next screen, the program will ask if you would like to use the file as a print then cut image or a cut image. Select “save as a print then cut image,” then push save in the bottom right-hand corner.

Once you upload the design into design space, it’s ready to print then cut. Hit the make it button, then select the printer you want to send the design to. Make sure you have cardstock loaded in the printer, then hit print.

Next, place the printed design on your cutting mat, placing the corner of the paper at the corner of the mat, as it appears on your computer screen. Don’t worry if it’s not exact. The black border around the image will help your Cricut know exactly where to cut.

Load the mat into the machine, then hit the flashing button to start cutting. Once the machine is done, unload your mat and remove the hearts from the cutting mat.

After your heart pieces have been cut, you’ll need to make one more cut with your scissors. Cut the large heart in half to create two separate pieces.

Puppy Popsicle Stick Craft

Now that you have the paper pieces cut, you can start assembling your craft. Start by lining up four large popsicle sticks in an even row. Then glue one smaller popsicle stick diagonally across the back to hold all thoses popsicle sticks in place.

Flip your popsicle sticks over to start building your dog craft. Place the two large heart halves at the top of the popsicle sticks to create ears for your Valentine’s Day dog.

Next, turn the medium sized black heart upside down and glue it to the center of your dog’s face.

After that, add the small pink heart to the top of the black heart as the dog’s nose.

Finish by decorating your Valentine’s Day dog with a couple of googly eyes between the ears. You can also use a black marker to add some dots on the dog’s face, if you want.

While this cute dog craft so easy to make using your Cricut, you can also cut them the regular way — with scissors. Here’s how to prepare the pieces for this craft using your printer and scissors.

  • Download the PDF. Start by signing up for my newsletter using the link above, then download the PDF from my freebies library.
  • Print on cardstock. Print the PDF on heavy cardstock to ensure the hearts hold up to glue.
  • Cut out around the border. Use your scissors to cut out each heart around the outer border of the shape.
  • Continue with the instructions. When all the hearts have been cut out, continue following the instructions above to put the rest of the craft together.

Instructions

Cricut Instructions:

  1. Download printable and load cardstock in the printer. Upload the PNG version in Design Space and select the print then cut option.
  2. Send the design to your printer, then place the printout on the cutting mat and load into the Cricut. Cut the design and remove it from the cutting mat.
  3. Use scissors to cut the large heart in half.
  4. Lay the large popsicle sticks on a flat surface and glue the small stick to the back to hold them in place.
  5. Glue the two halves of the large heart to each side of the popsicle sticks to make ears.
  6. Turn the medium sized heart upside down and glue it to bottom of the popsicle sticks.
  7. Glue the small heart to the tip of the black heart as the dog’s nose.
  8. Glue two eyes between each ear.
  9. Use the marker to draw dots on each side of the nose.

Instructions with Scissors:

  1. Download printable and load cardstock in the printer. Print the PDF.
  2. Use scissors to cut each of the shapes, then cut the large heart in half.
  3. Lay the large popsicle sticks on a flat surface and glue the small stick to the back to hold them in place.
  4. Glue the two halves of the large heart to each side of the popsicle sticks to make ears.
  5. Turn the medium sized heart upside down and glue it to bottom of the popsicle sticks.
