The best part about making this red, white, and blue centerpiece is that I found the tray and flowers at Dollar Tree. That means it’s not only simple to make, but also super cheap!

DIY Patriotic Centerpiece

To make your own patriotic centerpiece, you’ll need a few supplies. I found some of the items at the dollar store and had a few things at home already.

Here’s what you’ll need to make your own red, white, and blue decor:

  • Wood tray: To hold your centerpiece in place, you’ll need a wood tray. I found this small tray with stars on each side at Dollar Tree in the craft aisle and thought it was perfect. But you can also find trays similar to this one at craft stores, like Hobby Lobby, or in the craft aisle at Wal-Mart.
  • Paint: Give your tray a more patriotic look with some paint. I used red craft paint for my tray, but you could use red, white, or blue paint to dress up your tray.
  • Heat transfer vinyl: Add the phrase Let Freedom Ring to the front of your tray using heat transfer vinyl. I used white for this project, but if you paint your tray white, you could also use red or blue vinyl to decorate your tray.
  • Patriotic SVG : Keep scrolling to see how to get your free SVG file to make your own tray at home.
  • Cricut: To cut the words for your centerpiece, you’ll need a cutting machine to cut the vinyl. I use the Cricut Explore Air 2 and love it!
  • Mason jars: Any mason jars will work for this craft. I used a standard pint-size jar, but if you have a bigger tray, you may want to use bigger jars.
  • Flowers: Fill your jar with fresh or faux flowers to add some decoration to your table.
  • Gingham stars: Finish decorating your centerpiece by adding some stars to the tray around your jars. I found these gingham stars at Hobby Lobby, but you could also add some star table scatter from Dollar Tree to the tray to dress it up.

After downloading your SVG, unzip the file and upload the SVG into Design Space. When you load the SVG, you’ll see that each letter of the words is a separate piece. To make it easier to cut your design, select all the letters in the word with your mouse. Next, click the weld button in the bottom right corner to connect the letters together so they stay as a group when you’re ready to cut them.

When the letters are welded together, you can resize your words to fit on your tray. Measure the width and height of the space where you want your word to go, then resize the letters in Design Space to fit that area.

After your words are the correct size, start cutting. Just hit the Make It button at the top and select the mirror toggle in the left-hand menu. After that, you can send your patriotic phrase to your Cricut.

After the design has cut, unload the cutting mat from the machine and remove the vinyl from the mat. Use your Cricut weeding tool to remove all the extra vinyl surrounding the words.

Place the vinyl on the side of your tray, making sure it’s centered and straight. Press the vinyl down on the tray to help the plastic stick and stay in place. Then, use your EasyPress Mini to press the vinyl onto the wood.

Now that your tray is decorated, you can finish your centerpiece by adding accents to it to decorate your dining room table or the table at your next summer party. Try adding these elements to your centerpiece to give it a patriotic look:

  • Flowers: My favorite thing to add to a centerpiece is flowers. Use red, white, and blue faux flowers to give your centerpiece a more patriotic look. Or make the most of the summer weather and cut some fresh flowers to add to your mason jars.
  • Table scatter: Since your jars won’t completely fill the tray, you can decorate the bottom of your centerpiece with table scatter. Dollar Tree usually has a variety of fun options to choose from. Or add some larger pieces like the gingham stars I found at Hobby Lobby.
  • Patriotic sprays: Instead of flowers, give your centerpiece a festive look with patriotic sprays. You can stick some shiny metallic or sparkly glitter sprays into your centerpiece to add some holiday fun to your table display.
  • Tableware: Make your centerpiece do double duty by using the jars to hold your party’s tableware. You can place silverware, napkins, and straws in the jars and tray to create a cute display for all your party necessities.
  • Fireworks: Use your centerpiece to hold your 4th of July party supplies, like fireworks. The jars are the perfect place to hold sparklers, firecrackers, and poppers for your party.
