I’ve always been a big fan of floats. Coke floats, root beer floats, Buzz Lightyear floats — I’ll drink them all! But this recipe for an Ocean Water drink makes the BEST summer float I’ve had.
This summer float idea starts with Sonic Ocean Water. So, the easiest way to make your own Ocean Water float is to head to Sonic and grab an Ocean Water. But if you don’t have a Sonic nearby, I’m going to teach you how to make your own Ocean Water drink at home.
What Is Sonic Ocean Water
If you’ve never had Sonic Ocean Water, you’re probably wondering what is Sonic Ocean Water? Ocean Water is a blue soda drink you can purchase at Sonic restaurants. It features a combination of lemon-lime soda and a hint of coconut flavor, which tastes amazing on a hot summer day! You can purchase Ocean Water year-round at Sonic, but if you don’t have one nearby, it’s so easy to make your own! Keep reading to get the recipe.
How to Make Sonic Ocean Water
If you’re wondering how to make ocean water from Sonic, you’re in luck! This drink is so easy to make at home. To make your own Ocean Water drink, here’s what you’ll need:
- A jar or pitcher
- Lemon-lime soda (I used Sprite)
- Coconut extract (or imitation coconut flavoring)
- Sugar
- Blue food coloring
To make your own Sonic Ocean Water drink, start by making a simple syrup using hot water and sugar. Simply heat three tablespoons of water with 3 tablespoons of sugar in a microwave-safe container for 30 seconds. Stir until the sugar has dissolved to create a syrup. Then, add 1/2 teaspoon of coconut extract.
If you can’t find coconut extract, you can also use imitation coconut flavoring. But the flavor of the imitation coconut is a lot stronger than coconut extract, so I would cut the amount in half. After you add the coconut flavoring, add a couple drops of blue food coloring to get a nice blue color for your Ocean Water drink.
Fill your jar or pitcher with lemon-lime soda, then add the blue coconut syrup and stir until all the ingredients are well combined. This fun soda tastes just like an Ocean Water from Sonic! Then, set your Ocean water drink aside for a minute to prepare your floats.
Create an Ocean Water Drink
Start by grabbing a couple of cups for your floats. I suggest using small, clear glasses. The small size makes it easy to scoop out the ice cream as you drink. And using a clear cup ensures you can see all the delicious Ocean Water and ice cream inside! When you’ve found the perfect cup for your float, add two scoops of ice cream.
Finally, pour the ocean water over the top of the ice cream. And then all you have to do is grab a straw and spoon and dig in!
