DIY Dryer Sheets with Essential Oils
You guys know how much I love to DIY stuff! I especially like making my own versions of everyday items, like cleaning supplies. I’ve already shared with you my favorite DIY cleaning solution recipes and a great DIY air freshener. Now it’s time to learn how to make your own DIY dryer sheets!

You’ll love how simple these dryer sheets are to make! And the best part about making your own DIY dryer sheets is that they’re reusable. That means you can make them once and keep using them over and over again! Think about how much money you’ll be saving!!
And in addition to saving you money, you’ll also be removing lots of harmful chemicals from your laundry! So, making these simple DIY dryer sheets are a win-win.
Here’s What You Need
You probably already have everything you need to star making your own DIY dryer sheets. Here’s what I used to make mine:
- Scrap fabric or an old pillowcase
- Wide-mouth glass jar with a lid
- ¾ cup vinegar
- ¾ cup water
- 10 orange essential oil drops
- 10 lemon essential oil drops
- 10 drops lavender essential oil
Make Your Own DIY Dryer Sheets
Start by cutting your scrap fabric or pillowcase into smaller squares. The size of the fabric squares doesn’t matter, just try to keep them similar to the size of a traditional dryer sheet. Just keep in mind that making them too big will make it difficult to fit inside your jar. But making them too small will make them less effective in your dryer.
After cutting your fabric, set it aside. Grab your jar and mix the water and vinegar inside. I used a pint-size jar for my dryer sheets. If you decide to use a larger jar, just mix equal parts vinegar and water until the jar is almost full. Don’t fill the jar to the top or it will overflow when you add your fabric squares to mix!
Now it’s time to add your essential oils. I used a mix of lemon, orange, and lavender for my dryer sheets. But feel free to use any of your favorite scents. For a pint-size jar, use a total of 30 drops of oil. Finish preparing your soaking mixture by placing the lid and sealing it. Then, shake the jar to mix everything up.
Remove the lid and slowly start adding the fabric squares to the jar. Place them in one at a time, allowing each one to soak in the liquid before adding another. Keep adding fabric squares until the jar is full, then put the lid back on. Turn the jar upside down a few times to mix everything up one more time.

How to Use Your DIY Dryer Sheets
To use your dryer sheets, simply remove one from the jar and toss it in the dryer. The essential oils will help make your clothes smell amazing. And the vinegar will help kill any remaining mildew smells left over from your washing machine. And after you’re finished drying that load, just place the used dryer sheet back in the jar to soak.
Be sure to store your jar in a cool, dark place to help extend the life if your essential oils. Another simple way to keep the essential oils in these DIY dryer sheets working is to store the dryer sheets in a dark colored jar.

Love the idea however, I’m concerned about oil spots on my clothes. What has been your experienced.
I’ve been using these for a while and haven’t had any issues with oil spots. I suggest wringing the sheets out before you place them in the dryer, which will help with the concentration of oil on the sheet. If you do that, you shouldn’t have any problems with excess oil.

How often do you replace the sheets? Since having cut the fabric do they fray off?
It depends on how much laundry you do! I have three kids, so I do a ton of laundry and have to replace the liquid in the jars every couple of weeks. The sheets themselves should last you a while. I haven’t had any issues with my fabric fraying — It would probably depend on what type of fabric you use to make your sheets.
