Baby’s First Christmas Ornament

You only need three craft supplies to put these ornaments together. And you can find everything you need to make them at the dollar store.

To make your own baby Christmas ornaments, you’ll need just a handful of cheap craft supplies, including:

• Blank Christmas ornament. You have so many fun options when it comes to creating your own baby ornament! Scroll to the bottom of the post to get ides for where you can use this free SVG cut file!
• Vinyl. To add the adorable text to each ornament, you’ll need some vinyl. You can now purchase vinyl from the craft aisle at the dollar store. But if you want a more high quality vinyl for your ornaments, I recommend Oracal vinyl.
• Transfer tape. You’ll also need to use transfer tape to transfer the text from the backing paper to your ornaments. Try this transfer tape with grids to ensure your text is nice and even.
• Free SVG. The most important part of this DIY craft is the SVG cut file for your Cricut. Keep reading to see how to get yours right now!

How to Make Baby’s First Christmas Ornaments

Turning a blank ornament from Dollar Tree into adorable decorations for your Christmas tree couldn’t be easier! With the help of your Cricut, you can put together these cute decorations for your tree in a matter of minutes.

After you grab my free Christmas ornament SVG file, the first step is to measure your blank ornament. Simply measure the space where you want to text to go so you’ll know exactly how large you need to resize the design after you upload it.

Then, upload the file into Cricut Design Space. The file should load as a cut image with a transparent background.

After that, select all the elements of the design and use the weld tool to blend all the elements together into one group. This will tell your Cricut to cut each piece of the design as a group instead as individual elements.

Once your design is set, load your vinyl into the machine and cut out the ornament decorationd. Grab your weeding tool to remove the excess vinyl from around each word and place a piece of transfer tape on top.

Rub the top of the design with a flat object. I like to use my scraping tool, but an old credit card also works. Carefully pull the transfer tape off the backing paper and transfer the design to the front of your ornaments. Then, use your scraping tool to rub the vinyl onto the front of each ornament.

If you’re placing the vinyl on a rounded ornament, like a globe, it’s best to start at the center of the design and work your way outward to keep the vinyl from bunching up.
