Dinosaur Snack Mix
We’re definitely a snacking family. So, when I came across this dinosaur snack mix idea from The Skinny Fork, I knew I had to incorporate it into my son’s dinosaur-themed party. Of course, it was a big hit…mainly because it includes fun dino-shaped treats in each bag.
At Noah’s party, I labeled the snack mix as “Stegosaurus Snack Mix,” because I love using alliteration when creating fun names for the food I used at each party. (But the mix did have some stegosauruses in it!)

At the party, I used personal-sized brown bags I found at Hobby Lobby to hold the mix so each child could get the same amount. I just added the components of the mix to each bag until they were full. But we ended up with a lot of extra mix, which I dumped in a big Ziploc Bags for Noah to snack on the rest of the week.

To display the mix at the party, I found a bright green wire basket at Wal-Mart and lined it with a green bandana. Then, I just filled it with the snack bags.

While I used the Skinny Fork recipe as a jumping-off point, I wasn’t able to find any of the dino-shaped items she used in her mix. So, I had to go on a hunt for components I could use in mine. I also decided to narrow down the ingredient list a little bit since I was making personal-size portions in small bags. (I eliminated the use of nuts and dried fruit, although I think both would have been great in the mix!)

The first item I really wanted to include in the mix were dinosaur fruit snacks. I even saw some images floating around Pinterest of Kroger brand fruit snacks in the shape of dinosaurs. I guess those have been discontinued, or at least, aren’t available in my area. I was able to find these dinosaur gummies from Haribo on Amazon, though. And I think these were the kids’ favorite part of the mix, so I guess it worked out for the best!

The next substitution I made was to replace dino-shaped graham crackers with these adorable dinosaur cheese crackers from Plum Organics at Target. I had to scour my local store to find them, but I finally did — on the bottom shelf of the baby food aisle. They’re a little pricey, but one small bag actually holds a ton of crackers. I just used one bag to fill up the entire basket of snack bags and still had some left over.
Finish out the mix by adding in some freshly popped popcorn, pretzels (dinosaur bones), and Bugles
(dinosaur claws). The result is a crunchy, salty mix with a touch of sweetness.

Here’s a list of everything I used in my snack mix:
- Popcorn
- Mini pretzels
- Bugles
- Dinosaur cheddar crackers
- Dinosaur gummies
To make the mix, simply pop the popcorn, add in all the other ingredients, and mix carefully with your hands. If this mix isn’t eaten right away, store in an airtight container for up to three days.
