DIY Cinnamon Scented Pine Cones

One of my favorite scents of the fall and winter seasons is cinnamon. I love seeing the cinnamon scented decorative items popping up in the stores. But there really is no reason to buy them! Making your own DIY cinnamon scented pine cones is so easy and so much cheaper than buying them in the store. It’s such a fun farmhouse DIY project!

These easy DIY scented pine cones are so simple to make! In fact, they’re so easy, your kids can even help make them! That’s one of the reasons I love easy fall decoration so much. In addition to getting to spend some time with your kids creating a pretty fall decoration for your home, you can also use this simple craft as part of your decor all season long.

Make Your Own DIY Scented Pine Cones

To create your own cinnamon scented pine cones you’ll need:

• clean and dry pine cones
• Mod Podge
• paint brush
• cinnamon

Start by laying your pine cones on a covered surface. Since we only made a few cinnamon pine cones, I used a paper plate. If you’re planning on making a bunch of scented pine cones, you could lay out newspaper on a flat surface before you start. Just make sure you cover the surface you’re working on, because this fall craft gets a little messy!

After you have found the perfect place to work, grab your paint brush and Mod Podge and start painting the glue on the pine cones. Be sure to spread the glue evenly over the entire pine cone because the cinnamon will only stick to the spots that are covered in glue.

After you have one side of the pine cone covered, sprinkle cinnamon on top of the glue. Then, flip the pine cone over and repeat the process on that side. Keep working until all your pine cones are covered with Mod Podge and cinnamon.

Its best to work in small batches so you’re sure to get the cinnamon on the glue while it’s still wet. Once the glue dries, the cinnamon won’t stick!

After each of the scented pine cones are completely covered in cinnamon, set them aside and allow the to dry completely. I suggest setting them in a spot where they won’t be disturbed overnight. That way, you can be sure the glue is completely dry.

When the glue is dry, pick up each pine cone by its top and lightly tap it against a hard surface. This will loosen up any cinnamon that didn’t stick to the glue. Don’t skip this step or you’re sure to have a mess of cinnamon all over your house!
