Halloween is just around the corner, which means we’re going to be inundated with candy in the coming weeks. Read the Label for Gluten Free Halloween Candy

When in doubt, always read the label on your candy before you eat it or give it to a child with a gluten sensitivity. Always check the ingredients list to be sure wheat or barley isn’t listed. It’s also a good idea to scan the package of your candy for a “gluten free” designation. When in doubt, it’s best to put the questionable candy aside until you can research it further.

Consider Cross Contamination

Cross contamination can be a big problem during a variety of holidays. Many candy producers use additional facilities to make their candy during busy times of year, like Halloween and Christmas. So what you might think is gluten free Halloween candy, might actually be cross contaminated in the production facility. Therefore, you should always double check the package to ensure that your version of that gluten free Halloween candy is actually gluten free. I was surprised to find out that Reese’s, which are typically gluten free, offers seasonal products, like pumpkins and ghosts, which are not gluten free because they are packaged in a different facility!

Stick to Brands You Trust

While cross-contamination may be an issue for certain candies, there are a variety of candy brands that you can be sure will always offer gluten free Halloween candy. My favorite go-to gluten free candies come from Peeps and Jelly Belly, but there are tons of other great options for gluten free trick or treaters. I love this amazing infographic that the amazing people at Dentably Magazine let me publish on this post. They wanted to make it easy to see which candy is safe this Halloween for those of you who are gluten-free! There’s even have a printable option here so you can print it out and take it to the store with you while you shop.
