5 Easy Ways to Have Fun with DIY Bubbles This Summer
Summer is finally here, and we’re off to a great start! This week, we had some fun outside playing with DIY bubbles. Bubbles are always a great boredom buster in this house. My oldest loves blowing them, and the baby loves watching them float through the air. If your kids love bubbles as much as mine, then you need to keep reading because I have tons of DIY bubble crafts for kids for you to check out!
If you’re like me, you’re always searching for ways to entertain your kids during the summer months. This summer (like most) I’m trying to keep my oldest son away from screens and focusing on other activities. In addition to doing a ton of reading this summer, we’re also going to try to do as many fun activities as we can squeeze in. That’s why I joined this awesome summer family fun blog hop this month!

Huge Bubbles
Making huge bubbles was so much fun. We loved watching the DIY bubbles grow and grow before popping. Some of them even floated across the yard for a few seconds before hitting the grass and popping! The key to making extra large bubbles is moving very slowly and facing the same direction as the wind. If you have a slight breeze, you can let the wind do all the work for you. It was a pretty calm day outside the day we did these bubble activities so we didn’t have any problems. But I don’t think these big bubbles would work on a windy day.

To make these bubbles, you’ll need Dawn dish soap, corn starch, corn syrup, baking powder, and warm water. Simply mix the ingredients together in a large bowl slowly, so no bubbles form. Then let the mixture sit for at least an hour. Before you start making these DIY bubbles, just mix the mixture again slowly to incorporate all the ingredients again.
Giant Bubbles Recipe
6 cups warm water
1/2 cup Dawn dish soap
1/2 cup corn starch
1 tablespoon baking powder
1 tablespoon corn syrup
Mix all ingredients slowly until incorporated. Let stand at least one hour.
To make the large bubble wand, thread a piece of yarn through two straws and knot the ends to form a circle. Dip your yarn wand into the mixture with the straws together. Slowly separate the straws and either allow the wind to blow the bubble or blow slowly into the bubble on your own.
Bubble Snakes
These bubble snakes were another fun activity! And they’re super easy to make using things you probably already have lying around the house. To start, cut the bottom off of a plastic water bottle. Then, place a wash cloth or old sock on the end and secure it with a rubber band.

To make the bubbles, mix a little bit of water with a couple drops of dish soap. Place the washcloth end of the bottle into the bubble mixture. Have your child put their mouth on the other end and blow. That’s it! You can have tons of fun with this one with just a little effort. Just make sure to remind your child not to suck on the bottle or they’ll get a mouth full of bubbles!
DIY Bubbles Wands
Sometimes you have a lot of bubble solution on hand but not enough wands! That’s okay because it’s super easy to make your own bubble wands out of everyday items or craft supplies. We made some simple DIY bubble wands out if pipe cleaners to use in some basic bubble solution. Just bend the pipe cleaner about one-third of the way down from the top and form a circle. Then, twist the extra end around the base of the circle to secure it.

There are tons of other great ideas for making bubble wands if you don’t have pipe cleaners. You can make them out of a straw by cutting the straw into three pieces, then threading a piece of string or yarn through each piece. Tie the string in a knot, then form the straw into a triangle to use as a DIY bubbles wand. A clothes hanger can also be bent to form a large circle that is perfect for blowing big bubbles.
Bouncing Bubbles
Bouncing bubbles are a very fun DIY bubbles activity. Not only do your kids get to blow bubbles, but they can also interact with them. Chasing after the bubbles and catching them on their hands will be just as much fun as blowing the bubbles in the first place!

The recipe for bouncing bubbles uses everyday items I’m sure you have in your kitchen right now! The only extra piece of equipment you’ll need for this bubble experiment is a pair of gloves and a bubble wand. Gloves are a must for bouncing bubbles because it protects the bubbles from the oils on your hands, which will cause them to pop.
Bouncing Bubbles Recipe
4 tablespoons water
2 tablespoons sugar
1 tablespoon dish soap
Mix ingredients slowly without causing bubbles to form.
To make these bubbles, mix the above ingredients together, then use a bubble wand to blow bubbles. You can make them bounce by catching the bubbles on your glove. They’ll bounce right off! As long as the bubbles land on you’re child’s glove, the won’t pop. Just keep them away from sharp objects and bare skin!
Painting with Bubbles
While most bubble activities are for nice, sunny summer days outside, sometimes you need to have fun indoors, too. Try this activity next time you’re stuck inside because it’s too hot or raining. Painting with bubbles is a fun summer activity that actually makes some pretty cool artwork, too!
To paint with bubbles, mix a few drips of food coloring with a little bit of water and dish soap. For bright colors, you’ll need a lot of food coloring. Pastel colors can be made using just a few drops. To paint with the bubbles, have your child dip a straw into the colored bubble mixture then blow onto a piece of card stock (because it holds up a little better than standard paper).
Note: This activity is probably best for slightly older kids. Toddlers may have fun with the bubbles, but it could be hard for them to understand that they shouldn’t suck the liquid through the straw.

These bubbles ideas all look so fun and I love the recipes to make my own bubbles. We go through so many bubbles every summer. It will be great to whip up a batch. My kids will be loving all of these.
These are all so fun! We did Bubble Painting a couple of weeks ago and had a blast. Now I need to try those bubble snakes! Pinning this for later!
The fact that I am a Grandma and love blowing bubbles is proof positive that this is fun for all ages….that’s my story and I’m sticking to it! We have bubble making planned for Grandma Camp this summer and hope to blow those big one’s too!
My kids are teens and they still like playing with bubbles. I’m going to try making the giant bubble recipe for them and I’m sure it’ll be a hit. Thanks for the recipes. Pinned.
I love bubbles and I think basically every kid does, too! Funny thing I’ve never heard of three out of your 5 ways to make bubbles, so I am super thankful for you sharing this. What I like most about bubbles is that they are so shiny and display the colours of the rainbow.
Wow! I love the extra large bubbles! So cool!
you could DIY this incredible bubble wand and extreme bubble solution for GIANT bubbles all year long. The choice is yours.
