Gluten Free Strawberry Dump Cake
While this recipe has the word “cake” in the title, it’s important to know that the texture is much different than traditional cake. Since the cake mix is baked on top of the filling, it’s more like a cobbler than a cake after it’s finished baking.

And while it doesn’t have the same texture as a cake, it’s still super delicious! But my favorite part about this gluten free party food recipe is that you only need a few ingredients to make it. To prepare your own chocolate dump cake, you’ll need:
- Strawberry pie filling. Most strawberry pie filling is gluten free, but it’s always a good idea to check the label before you add your pie filling to your dump cake.
- Philadelphia No Bake Cheesecake Filling. Since this premade filling doesn’t contain gluten, it’s a great way to add cheesecake flavor without all the extra work! If you can’t find this brand, take a look at the bottom of my post for some substitution ideas.
- Gluten free white or yellow cake mix. For this recipe, I used Kinnikinnick gluten free white cake mix. But I would also recommend King Arthur Flour gluten free yellow cake mix as well.
- Butter
How to Make Gluten Free Strawberry Dump Cake
You only need a few minutes of prep work to make this quick and easy summer dessert, which means it’s perfect for your next party! Just layer the ingredients and pop it in the oven for a flavorful sweet treat that’s sure to be a hit.

Start by spreading the strawberry pie filling in an even layer across the bottom of a 9×13 baking dish.

After that, add spoonfuls of the no bake cheese cake filling all over the top of the pie filling. I used around two cups of filling, not the entire container.

Then, use the back of your spoon to lightly spread the cheesecake filling around. Be careful not to over-mix the filling with the strawberries or you’ll end up with a pink mess!

Now grab a medium bowl and combine the gluten free cake mix with melted butter. Slowly stir to mix the two ingredients together until small clumps begin to form. Keep stirring until all the dry cake mix sticks together and is nice and clumpy.

Next, sprinkle the cake mix crumbles all over the top of your strawberries and cheesecake filling. Continue spreading the cake mix until all of it is evenly distributed over the top of the pan.

Bake the cake in the oven for 40 to 50 minutes, until the top of the dump cake is beginning to brown and the filling is bubbly.
There are two different ways you can serve your strawberry dump cake — warm or cold. If you want to enjoy the dump cake like a cobbler, you can serve it warm while the cheesecake and pie filling are nice and gooey.
But if you want your dump cake to taste more like strawberry cheesecake, allow the pan to cool completely, then place it in the refrigerator. Chill the dump cake for at least 4 hours before serving.

On top of being simple to make, this cake mix recipe is also easy to adjust. Try these recipe ideas to create a delicious dessert for any occasion.
- Serve it with toppings. This yummy strawberry dessert is delicious on it’s own thanks to the cheesecake filling inside. But adding a scoop of ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream on top takes the flavor over the edge!
- Make your own cheesecake filling. If you can’t find the Philadelphia no bake cheesecake filling in your store, it’s easy to make your own. Simply beat together 8 ounces of softened cream cheese with one cup sugar and one teaspoon vanilla. Then, spread the mixture evenly across the pan.
- Leave out the cheesecake. You’re going to love the combination of strawberries and cream cheese in this dessert. But if you would rather skip the cheesecake, simply replace the cream cheese filling with an additional can of strawberry pie filling.
- Use traditional cake mix. While this recipe is designed to be a gluten free dessert, there’s no reason you can’t prepare it with regular cake mix if you don’t have an issue with gluten! Simply replace the gluten free cake mix with regular white or yellow cake mix and follow the recipe as written.
