Assemble Your DIY Mardi Gras Masks
After printing the Mardi Gras mask printable on card stock, cut each mask out around the outer edge. To cut the eyes out of the mask, make a small slit in the center of each eye hole. Then, use a sharp pair of small scissors to work your way around the border of the opening.
When your masks are ready to be decorated, grab your decorations! Here’s what we used to decorate our DIY Mardi Gras masks:
- Purple, green, and gold sequins
- Tacky glue
- Yellow feathers
- Black polka dot paper straws
To decorate your Mardi Gras mask printable, spread a thin layer of tacky glue over the top of the mask using a paintbrush. Then, decorate the mask with sequins. My oldest was able to make a striped design with the sequins. And my toddler sprinkled the sequins on to his mask (with a little help from me).
After decorating with the sequins, use your hand to press the sequins in place. Then, set the masks in a safe place to let them dry undisturbed.
Make sure the tacky glue is completely dried on your decorated masks before moving on to the next step. If you try to attach the feathers and handle to the mask before the glue is dry, your sequins will just fall off.
Add a few drops of glue to the side of the back of the mask and attach your feathers. Then, add more glue to the top of the features to attach the paper straw handle. Squeeze the feathers and handle in place as the glue dries to make sure they’re secure.
DIY Mardi Gras Mask Variations
This cute Mardi Gras craft for kids is so easy to make! If you’re looking for ways to make this craft your own, here are some easy variations you could make to the craft. Always start by printing the Mardi Gras mask printable templates, the continue with these ideas:
Different Decorations
One of the simplest ways to change up the look of this easy craft is to use different decorations on the masks. We used sequins because they’re a classic Mardi Gras mask decoration. But here are some other decorating ideas:
- Glitter
- Paint
- Washi tape
- Glitter pens
- Markers
- Plastic jewels
Add a String
Instead of attaching a handle to the side of the mask, attach a string or piece of elastic. That way, your child can wear the mask instead of just holding it.
Use Other Fun Mardi Gras Accessories
After your masks are finished, accent them with other fun Mardi Gras accessories, like:
- Plastic beads
- Hats
- Bracelets
- Glow sticks
- Feather boas
